Simple Steps To Achieve Contemporary Bathroom Vanities And Cabinets

by Wyatt Fisk

Vanities and cabinets are the fastest, easiest and most satisfying do-it-yourself bathroom projects that could definitely change the aesthetics of any bath space. Always put in mind that the materials utilized for your vanities and cabinets, especially those that are made from wood, are subject to damages due to their consistent exposure to water and chemicals coming from the bath products that you and your family often use. One good means to prevent damages from occurring on your vanities and cabinets is to immediately repair them in case they are having hardware problems. However, if there are no damages needed to be repaired and you would like to have modern bathroom cabinets and vanities at a fraction of the costs of new bathroom furnishings, the best option you have is to refinish or refurbish your old bathroom storage furnishings.

In order to have modern bathroom furniture you would need the following items: household cleaner, wash cloth, water, fine grit sandpaper, paint scrape, screwdriver, paintbrush or sponge, water-based primer and paint, and new handles. To get things rolling, you would have to think of a theme for your vanities and cabinets; make sure that your choice is appropriate for the current interior design of your bathroom to maintain design continuity. Your design choice would affect the color scheme that you would use for your project.

Now, set aside all the items inside and outside of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets. After doing this, remove all the doors and drawers of your furniture using your screwdriver, along with the handles of the drawers if you would like to change the handles; doing this would make it easier to clean and paint the hardware pieces. Then, wash these parts of your furnishings with household cleaner diluted in water and wash cloth. Make sure to clean the entire surface as well as the inside of your vanities and cabinets.

Once the hardware pieces of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets are dry, sand the entire surface of these pieces using fine grit sandpaper so as to remove all the shiny polishing. A paint scraper is a good alternative if fine grit paper could not remove all the previous paint of your furnishings. The rough surface produced by sanding would allow the paint to hold properly on the hardware, and would also prevent bubbles from forming on the surface of your fixtures. Sanding could also remove the bumps from the surface of the hardware.

After sanding, remove the dust residue from the surface of the doors and drawers of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets using a damp sponge, and then set the hardware aside to dry. When you are ready to proceed with painting, make sure to paint each piece first with a thin coat of water-based primer. Once the primer dries up, apply the actual color you have chosen for your furnishings using a paintbrush, or for a more vintage look you could also combine terracotta latex paint and glaze of any color.

Dry the doors and drawers of your bathroom fixtures after painting them, and then install the new handles of your hardware pieces. After which, reassemble these hardware pieces back to their designated positions and give it a quick wipe once they're installed. Now, you can make use of your homemade modern bathroom furniture pieces. With the aid of these quick and easy refurbishing guide, it won't be necessary to purchase new bathroom furnishings to update the look of your bath space.

Contemporary bathroom vanities as well as modern bathroom cabinets are good fixtures inside bath spaces because of the storage they provide. However, due to frequent usage they are also subject to wear and tear that could shorten their service life. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to refurbish or refinish these modern bathroom furniture pieces when needed in order to replace their old parts or to update their styles.
