Heartbreaking Effects of Childhood Obesity

by Candace Right

We all know that childhood obesity is not healthy. It's an epidemic, and you need only look around to see how dangerous it is becoming. Children are the future, and it's no wonder that so many people are terrified for them. As one individual, you can't do much about the future of these children. But if you're a parent, you can at least safeguard your own child's future.

The effects of childhood obesity aren't just alarming, they are downright dangerous. Childhood obesity is linked to all sorts of diseases that usually plague adults. They can suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and high cholesterol.

Then there are the negative social effects of childhood obesity. Children can be very mean to each other, especially at school. Children that are overweight are often made the butt of many harsh jokes and laughter.

It's a miserable existence for a child who is constantly made fun of and never accepted. Just think of what their life is like when no one asks them out to the school dance because they're "too fat". Nobody wants them to play on their sports team. They never seem to get invited to birthday parties.

The more people see the effects of childhood obesity for themselves, the more we can hope that everyone will stand up and help put an end to this epidemic. But today, you can start with your own child when it's time for dinner. Teach your child about the different kinds of food, telling them what is and isn't healthy. In this way, you can help him or her form good eating habits for life. You'll be putting a stop to childhood obesity. Your child depends on you, the parent, to teach him or her what's right and how to eat. As far as childhood obesity is concerned, your child needs you to give him or her a better way to live. You have the power to either give your child a better quality of life, or to condemn him or her to a life of sorrow and disease. You can help put a stop to the childhood obesity epidemic by starting with your own child.
